OK, a proper reaction post
Jul. 3rd, 2011 01:32 amS and I went over to Bill's for supper before the show, which was interesting. That's really the nicest way I can think to describe it. Unfortunately, supper was mostly damage control, and I don't think Millie likes S very much. I tried to explain that the whole thing was a lot out of his comfort zone, but I'm not sure I did a particularly good job.
So, sorry again, Millie. Yes, he is always like that, but it's not necessarily a bad thing.
People started show up about a half hour before the show. There was much sticky popcorn being made, and even with Bill's place being bigger than ours, seating was still a bit tricky. Eventually, S wound up on the floor, buried under Dog, but I don't think he cared. He mostly kept to himself all night, even when people did seem to be trying to deliberately bait him into a row (not naming names, and I'm still disappointed in that).
The episode was... wow. Talk about intense. I don't even know where to start. I think this was Gatiss' episode, and I had no idea he could write like that. I wasn't sure what I was expecting from him, but Victory of the Daleks this wasn't. I can't say that it was a particularly easy episode to watch, but those reasons are my own.
Not going to do a proper recap. Watch
cons_detective if that's what you're after, because his are always really good.
[rare ooc note: You lot have been doing wonderful already, but I need to ask that any actual spoilers or information for next series not be posted, as we've not yet decided whether or not we'll be playing through series 2. Thanks.]

Finally a fic post!
Jul. 1st, 2011 07:29 amI signed up to do a bit of last-minute fic'ing for
holmestice on a lark. Maybe not the wisest idea, with everything that's been going on, but I had fun! The person I wrote it for wanted something from the new BBC verse, so I'm not sure how well I did with characterisation and stuff. So I sort of cheated a bit, and turned it into an ACD fusion.
Title: Turnabout's Fair Play
Pairing: Holmes/Watson friendshippy/squint/pre-slash/IDK
Length: 6,400
Rating: PG
Warnings: Contains a bit of everything. Asexual!Holmes, heavy nods to ACD canon, stealth nods to other fandoms, casefic and the expected amount of murder and misdeeds, H/C, light medical kink, either friendshippy or squint; I can’t tell.
Beta Credit:
storm_ford and
not_thatbill
Disclaimer: ACD might actually be rather amused by all this.
Summary: A holiday to Cornwall turns into a test ofWatson's John’s patience.

A Study In Pink
Jun. 18th, 2011 11:48 pmSo, the BBC aired SHERLOCK tonight, and... well, wow, really. I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't that. Holmes and Watson Sherlock and John (I don't think I'll ever get used to that) running across rooftops and using GPS to track criminals. Wow. I'll do a proper write-up later. Or maybe just wait until S does his and link to it, because he's probably better at that sort of thing than I am.
BUT! That wasn't even the best bit. The best bit was all the everyone who came over. Very successful turnout, I thought. Finally got to meet
salts_theway in person. She was cool. Pretty much exactly what I was expecting, I think. And just like I promised everyone, S was... well, okay. Not exactly behaved, but civil. He mostly just ignored everyone, and spent most of the time pointing out plotholes in the show. Well, shouting at them. He really didn't like that Holmes didn't work out the thing with the killer (being intentionally vague so I don't have to cut for spoilers).
It went off fairly... ok. We did have another group of people from
holmeschat show up. I'm so sick of those people. Seriously. Maybe these ones will get stupid and post to HC as well so I can bring the smackdown on them as well. But Mary and Bill took care of them so I didn't have to deal wit them.
Once again, my flat is completely cover in popcorn. It's all ground into the carpet, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to try to pull out the sofa to get all of it. You guys, seriously. And if it isn't popcorn, it's cake. WTF, I thought we were all adults. Why is there cake ground into my chair? BILL, YOU WERE SITTING THERE. WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU DOING WITH THAT CAKE? I swear, you're about this close to having embarrassing pictures show upon on the internet. I'll put them on HC if I have to.
Harry called a bit after the episode was over to have a bit of a shouting match. Sorry to everyone who was still here, again. She was pissed off that I did the pub quiz last night but I just didn't even want to deal with it. My phone's off for the night. If you need me, send S a text or something. He's good at screening calls.

Small update
Jun. 1st, 2011 07:34 amDay off today, so my plans include a whole lot of nothing. I might have a quiet evening in with Jude Law's moustache and a curry, unless someone can think of something better to do.
In proper news, my sister in law got a Deviant Art account yesterday. Go check it out. She's really good.

BBC Holmes Adaptation
May. 30th, 2011 07:04 am1. Premier date has been announced. June 11th! YAY!
2. It's going to be six episodes long, split into two parts, with the second half starting sometime in November. WTF BBC? Why are you doing this? First Doctor Who and now the Holmes adaptation. What's the point!?
3. I've just learned that one of the League of Gentlemen is a writer. ...Not sure if want. Then again, he writes for Doctor Who on occasion, so maybe it's a good thing. I can't tell. Now all I can think is that Mrs Hudson is going to be in blackface and call everyone Dave.
4. The more I hear about this, the more I can't wait, regardless of the points that make me nervous. I don't necessarily trust Moffat, but I trust his abilities, if that makes sense.
Speaking of Doctor Who,
cons_detective came over yesterday and we got him caught up on the current series. When he gets going on a project, he'll lose entire days, so he tends to miss a lot of stuff. He never seems to know the day or date. That's why his artwork is so amazing though. He'll spend hours on it without realising how long he's spent.
He was doing some drawing last night on his laptop and did a wonderful portrait of Matt Smith. Or the Doctor. They're sort of the same person, really. But go take a look at it. One of these days, I'm going to commission him for something. I just have to decide what. It'll have to wait until later though, because right now, he's taking up my entire sofa and drooling on it. Which he will deny as soon as he reads this post.
Potential spoilers in comments, as always.

... Hello, Dave.
Has anybody heard the news?
May. 28th, 2011 03:43 pmSomeone mentioned today that the BBC are planning on doing a modern Holmes adaptation. Is this true? Is there any merit to this? Or is someone just spreading lies?
I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I think I'll wait until I hear more information before deciding whether or not I want to look into it. I mean, depending on who you ask, the RDJ film was good. So, I guess what I'm saying is that I'm hopeful. Cautiously optimistic, I think is the phrase.
I'll post more info if/when I find it.
